Have a phone interview coming up for an internship? It can be easy to let your guard down when the interviewer can't see you. In this video below, I share four common mistakes intern candidates make that you need to avoid.

Hopefully, this helps you.

#1: The distracted intern candidate (0:24)
#2: The shuffling paper intern candidate (0:40)
#3: The my roommate is knocking on my door intern candidate (0:53)
#4: The answering the phone like you didn't know you had an interview intern candidate (1:13)

The Bottom Line

Use common sense when preparing for a phone interview, and ask yourself what you would want to see from a candidate if you were interviewing him or her.

Ultimately...

Find a quiet place where you won't be interrupted.

Be on time.

Answer your phone like you're expecting the call.

It's okay to have your resume or another reference sheet in front of you, but don't go all crazy moving paper around.

And most importantly, be confident!
